Seven CBPs at County Championships

Good weather – especially on the second day, meant an outstanding opportunity for some excellent early season marks at Horspath Road.

In the Senior Women’s Discus, Kathryn Woodcock was close to her 50 metre-plus pb when throwing a Championship Best Performance of 48.53m – exceeding the old mark by some 4 metres.

One of the older records fell in the U17 Women’s Pole Vault, when Reading’s Emily Scrivener cleared 3.10m, erasing Caroline Smith’s 1999 record.

Two records fell in the U15 Girls’ events, both to a Lily from the Oxford City club! Lily Peach produced a Javelin PB and CBP with 33.10m. In the Shot, Lily Martin also set a PB and a new County record. Coached by Barry Symonds at OCAC, Lily Mark 2 hurled the 3kg implement out to 10.89m.

Annie Jonkers (Reading AC) set a new CBP in winning the U13 70m Hurdles, clocking 11.64 secs, despite a marginal headwind. This was also a PB for Annie who runs second claim for OCAC.

The Boys were not quite so prolific, registering just two new CBPs. But Henry Channon (OCAC) went to 2 nd on the National rankings, winning the 1500 in 4:18.71, just over 4 seconds inside the old record.

The Banbury sprint squad enjoyed a very successful weekend, spearheaded by U15 Archie Jones who took advantage of a just-legal tailwind to stop the clock at a CBP time of 11.58.

Less fortunate in having their CBP performances nullified by a wind reading marginally over the permissible 2 metres per second were U13s Kai Wilkinson and Barnaby Hedges. Kai, from the Radley club, is surely due for a big PB, as he improved his 100 time from 13.92 to 13.03 with a wind reading of only 2.6. Barnaby Hedges (Great Milton AC) also tasted a fine victory, albeit without the CBP, in recording a wind-assisted 13.24 for the 75m Hurdles.
