The Oxfordshire Senior Ladies team finished in 9th place out of a total of 26 completed teams at the CAU Cross Country Championships held at Prestwold near Loughborough on Saturday. Given that Oxfordshire is a very small county compared with the likes of Yorkshire this was an amazing performance. It was almost certainly the highest ever placing for an Oxfordshire Senior Ladies team.
Everyone ran extremely well in the challenging and muddy conditions over what apparently turned out to be over 11km?! Each and everyone of the ladies were a credit to Oxfordshire. The team included ladies who were new to representing the County. It was a fantastic experience for them as well as a great team to be part of.
Jessica Gibbon produced an amazing run and given her recent performance at the recent English National Cross Country Championships it came as no surprise to see her finish in 2nd place overall. This was a fantastic achievement in what was an extremely talented field. It has to be the highest ever placing achieved by an individual athlete for Oxfordshire. What a talent! Hopefully this performance could be the springboard that leads to GB selection in the future for her.
The Oxfordshire individual ladies’ placings were Jessica Gibbon (2nd), Sophie Lloyd (66th), Liz McAllister (106th), Chelsea Creak (108th), Lucy Rycroft (132nd), Frankie Snare (139th), Becky Hodgson (171st) and Jess Ralf (199th). A total of 254 ladies finished the race.
