Alan Corfield, a former County AA Treasurer and senior official, passed away in February 2020.
Born in London on 20 May 1933, Alan joined Highgate Harriers at the age of 16 in 1949 and, along with wife June, offered huge support to that club over many years, as an athlete timekeeper, cross country team manager, and President. In recognition of these services, he was awarded Life Membership by the club.
He was also Middlesex AA Treasurer for 12 years and President in 1991. He was also a President of the South of England Cross Country Association, and served on the English Cross Country Association (ECCA) for many years.
Alan and his family moved from their Ruislip home to Hailey in Oxfordshire in January 1989. In Oxfordshire, Alan once again took on a County Treasurer role, serving our own County Association for a number of years. He was also very active as a timekeeper, both in Endurance and Track & Field, often travelling with his close friend, Starter Derek Adams. He also kept up his links with Middlesex AA, the SEAA and the ECCA.
For some years Alan had not enjoyed the best of health and he eventually moved to North Devon, where he died in February. A funeral service was held at North Devon Crematorium in Barnstaple on 3rd March 2020.
With thanks to Ian, one of Alan’s two sons, and to Derek Adams for most of the above information.
