It was good to see so many Oxfordshire athletes competing in the British Outdoor Championships and Olympic Trials at Birmingham. Pride of place went to Nathan Douglas, still an OCAC athlete, for his popular victory in the Men’s Triple Jump. Nathan’s winning leap of 16.58 signalled a return to form and may have revived his hopes of making this year’s Olympic Games. One athlete who is Rio-bound is Lawrence Clarke (WSEH), an Oxfordshire champion in 2012, after taking silver in the 110H with a time of 13.44.
Hannah England (OCAC) came 5th in a very competitive 1500 final, while Kyle Ennis (Banbury) did well to make the Men’s 200 final. Kathryn Woodcock (Radley) excelled with a pb throw of 47.45m to finish 7th in the Discus.
Alice Hopkins (Radley) and Alice Byles (OCAC) were knocked out in the heats of the 100H and 400H respectively, while Gemma Bridge (OCAC) was well placed in the 5000 Walk until being pulled out by the judges.
