Oxon AA organises County Championships and inter-county events, selects County teams and leads athletics in Oxfordshire. More ➜
The Championships this year will again be held at Horspath. To aid the smooth running of the programme, we are asking each of the T & F clubs in Oxon to nominate ONE helper for each of the four half days of the championships. This is in addition to the qualified officials they provide. We need this extra help as the two counties do not have enough officials to maintain all the events. We are agreed that these helpers will never be asked to run any event without the support of more senior officials.
The remaining medals from the County XC Races will be available for collection at the County Half Marathon (White Horse Half Marathon) this Sunday (April 8th). They will be parcelled up in individual clubs, and it would be helpful if a member of all clubs could contact the County Chairman in the Hall after the half-marathon and then distribute onwards. The delay in presenting these arises because of the cancellation of the last race in the OxMail XC series.
Congratulations to Rebecca Scott, who has recently gained a Level 2 (Field Judge) qualification.
Inadvertently, there is a misconception in the notes for the T&F championships, relating to the U13 athletes. For Track and Field athletics, they must have reached their 11th birthday by August 31st in the competition year, and so can compete whilst aged 10. It is only in Cross Country and Road Races (including the County Road Relays) that these athletes can only compete as U13 from the day of their 11th birthday.
The best way for travel from the South is as follows:
M1 to junction 21A and then take A46 to Loughborough and Leicester North
After 1/2 mile, turn onto the A6; at roundabout follow signs to Loughborough and Rothley - straight over the next roundabout continuing 3.5 miles down A6.
Turn off A6 at SECOND signpost for Quorn and Barrow on Soar; proceed up the hill and turn left at the next roundabout.
The following are invited to run in these championships on March 10th at Prestwold Hall, Leics. Please note that there are listed reserves for some of the races - so if you are injured or unable to run, please let us know. The selection for these teams is difficult as some junior athletes run several races in the season, and others only the County Championships. The first six in the latter were selected as of right. I have tried to take all results for athletes over the season into this selection process.
Can I take this opportunity to remind all clubs and athletes that, in accord with the change introduced by UK-A, there is need for a parent or guardian's signature for ALL athletes aged under 18 in all events. This may represent difficulties for students studying away from their home; and as such, all athletes should allow themselves enough time to complete the necessary documentation in advance of event closing dates.
Entry documentation has been sent to clubs today (14/02/18). Is it worth repeating that if any club hasn’t had their info to contact Rose (we have been unable to ontact some clubs).
Origional post is here.
The Championships this year will again be held at Horspath and the final timetable and entry form available in due course. However, athletes and coaches may like to note the following:
It is essential that the length of the championships is not more than 8 hours on each of the days. This can best be achieved by removing some events (3000m, 5000m and 10000m; Steeple-chases) to other occasions during the summer.
