This year was unusual due to Covid-19 and English Schools organisers selecting the athletes from all the counties nominations. English Schools selected the top sixteen athletes in each event in each age group.
Oxfordshire put forward nineteen names, seventeen were selected. One athlete was unable to attend, leaving sixteen athletes to represent Oxfordshire. Three Senior boys, three Senior girls, four Inter boys, four Inter girls and two Junior girls. The Championship ran over three days with the Seniors on the Friday, Inters on the Saturday and Juniors on Sunday.
All athletes arrived with their parents and joined the Team Managers and other athletes. The athletes supported other events where possible. The discus throwers were at a second site twenty minutes away in Stretford. A big thank you to Kathryn Woodcock for supporting the athletes based at Stretford on Friday and Saturday.
The highlight of the championship for Oxfordshire were three medals after no medal winners for the last couple of years. Many congratulations to Eloise for her gold achieved with a personal best long jump of 5.91m. As the Intermediate Girls Champion for long jump, Eloise has been invited to the Schools International in Derby in September, where she will represent England. We wish Eloise success in the International.
The senior girls pole vault started late on the Friday afternoon and went on into the evening with a very exciting competition. Emily achieved national standard and secured the bronze. Congratulations to Emily.
