Well done to all the Oxfordshire athletes on being selected to represent their county at Inter Counties Cross Country Championships. After a long winter of racing this is the pinnacle of the season for many athletes, with 47 county teams from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all travelling to Prestwold Hall near Loughborough to compete. After a pretty dry winter, the athletes were greeted with a hilly parkland course with some very physically demanding sticky, muddy sections following snow and heavy rain during the week.
For many athletes this was their first experience of racing at this level, with packed starting gates and a technical first 200m to navigate before hitting the mud. We had some very impressive individual results – anything top 20 at this level is top quality – well done to Olivia Martin 5th (U20 Women), Isla McGowan 6th (U15 Girls), Mollie Davis 9th (U13 Girls) and Quinn Miell-Ingram 15th (U17 Men), and also to our senior ladies team for a great 9th place, and our senior men in 15th. As a small county we definitely punched above our weight this winter. First four junior athletes home and first 6 senior were the scoring athletes for each team
Big thank you also to Izzy for all her help with numbers and vests at both Southerns and Inter Counties.
