The amazingly talented Divine Iheme starred in the Oxfordshire Championships at Horspath Road on 10th and 11th May. His sprint double in the U17 100m and 200m finals brought UK lead times in both events – 10.39 secs and 21.29 secs respectively. What made these runs even more impressive was that the Radley youngster overcame a headwind in both races to notch up these outstanding marks. Coached by his mother, Divine is still in the first year of his age group and looks set to continue breaking records, as he sits at the top of the UK rankings for his age group both sprints.
Bisan Musa also headed to the top of the UK rankings in the U17 Women’s 300m Hurdles. The Reading-based athlete clocked 43.38 secs in this event, having already registered a win in the 300m flat race.
In the U13 Boys Sam Cousins (Radley) beat his own County record. His winning time of 4 mins 34.58 secs places him 3rd on the current UK rankings for his age group.
U15 Boy Harry Thynne (Abingdon AC) was another record-breaker, taking the 300m in a time of 37.93 secs.
There were also inaugural bests from two Oxford City athletes in the 1500m Steeplechase, where Sylvie Kentish (U17 W) recorded 6 mins 26.34 secs and Evan Timbs (U15 B) 5 mins 30.15 secs.
