Oxfordshire Schools' Athletic Association is responsible for organising District Schools' Championships. There are four districts in Oxfordshire:
- City (C)
- North (N)
- South (S)
- Vale (V)
Pupils are usually entered into District Championships by their PE teacher identifying athletic talent. The best performers at district level then compete at the Oxfordshire Schools' County Championships (track & field only). Pupils may then progress to represent Oxfordshire at a national level, see sections below.
The English Schools’ Athletic Association (ESAA) promotes the enjoyment of athletics in schools and is responsible for organising national championships. ESAA age groups for track & field, cross country and combined events championships are:
Junior – school years 8 & 9 (under 15)
