Great Oxfordshire performance at centenary ESAA Championships

A gifted group of 9 athletes from Oxfordshire schools headed to Mansfield with real confidence that many of them would make the finals in September in Stoke. The team atmosphere was great and the support from parents was excellent throughout the two days.
Junior Boys
All budding steeplechasers are advised that the county schools and the county championships races are to be held on 8 June as part of the county schools event at Horspath.
1500 s/c for u15, u17 and u20 women
1500 s/c for u15, u17 men
2000 s/c for u20 men
Interested athletes for this year's Oxfordshire Schools Track & Field Championships will need to make their application individually via the Open Track website here.
There will be no district championships like in previous years.
This event is open to pupils attending any secondary school in Oxfordshire.

Pontefract Racecourse were the hosts of the 55th Girls' and 63rd Boys' English Schools Cross-Country Championships.
Given the 320 mile round trip, the Oxfordshire team had the luxury of a overnight stay; a wonderful chance to get to know teammates and build camaraderie before the racing commenced on Saturday afternoon. Greeted by dry spring conditions, the athletes set about learning the course and early indications were of a sticky and challenging course given persistent rainfall in recent weeks.
A small but talented band of 8 Oxfordshire athletes headed to Derby for this year regional Combined Events. A combination of covid induced years of inactivity plus the proximity of ESAA national finals, next week, meant that only the brave and longstanding multi eventers persevered.
Junior Boys
Not all things in life go to plan! In general, Combined Events is a roller coaster with some huge highs and a smattering of lows. The very nature of the discipline teaches us to be able to recover and move on whether we have had success or not – a great model for life!
