Oxon AA County flag

Submitted by Joe on

Could all clubs look to see if they have the County Flag? This is really essential for athletes identifying the 'base camp' at cross country and other fixtures? To my knowledge I have not seen it for the last two years. Can anyone finding it, let both Lyn and myself know.

Thank you

Chairman, OAA

Vernon Blowfield

The County Association lost its oldest Vice President last month. Vernon Blowfield died of natural causes at his home in Witney on February 26, aged 97.

A fine runner in his day, Vernon finished second at the National Cross Country Championships in 1948, having led until the last couple of hundred yards. He also represented Great Britain in a number of events while serving in the RAF and only stopped running about ten years ago.

Vernon moved to Witney in 1952 and worked for Smiths Industries, a manufacturer of aeronautical and automotive instruments.

Oxon- Bucks AA T & F Championships 13/14 May 2017 at Horspath Stadium, Oxford

Submitted by Joe on

The Championships this year will again be held at Horspath and the final timetable and entry form will be available in due course. However, athletes and coaches may like to note the following.

It is essential that the length of the championships is not more than 8 hours on each of the days. This can best be achieved by removing some events (3000m, 5000m and 10000m; Steeple-chases and Pole Vault) to other occasions during the summer.

Track & Field Inter-County Competition 2017

Submitted by Joe on

Clubs, athletes and coaches should note that this year’s SEAA U15 & U20 Inter-County Championships will again take place at Horspath Road, on 20 August 2017. This is a high standard event and one that would provide a worthy target for many of the stronger U15 & U20 athletes in the County. Naturally, Oxfordshire would like to make a strong showing on home ground. Interested U17 athletes are welcome to indicate their wish to be considered.
